Harry and the Potters and the Power of Love, our 3rd full length, was recorded between February and June of 2006, mostly in a house in Cambridge, MA, but also, partially, in our old high school basement, our parent’s living room, and at our old piano teacher’s house. A whole of of awesome people helped out, especially Kevin (recording), Ernie (drums), Brian (bass), Juliette (cello), Jeanie (violin), Dan (mastering) and Georg (artwork). This album is, without a doubt, our best yet. Did we mention this album has strings? And tubular bells? Victory Strikes Again!

The recordings on this disc span nearly 7 years of Harry and the Potters recording history! Nine of these tracks were previously released, either on compilations or on our two out-of-print 7s. The rest of the songs on the disc were recorded at various points over the last 7 years. A few of them were left off previous albums and a few (tracks 10-12) were recorded just for this disc! So there’s some new stuff, some old stuff, some rare stuff, and some weird stuff. All-in-all, it’s a pretty fun listen. The second disc is a collection of demos going all the way back to our first album. Quite a document for the wizard rock historian.

The Enchanted Ceiling EP was released in Summer 2007 as part of the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club.  We recorded it in March 2007 and our idea was to try and write and record as many songs as possible in a single weekend.  Not all of these songs were actually written during that weekend though.  The song “Harry Potter” was, in fact, written in the van on our very first tour 2004 during a drive from LA to San Francisco.  And “Rockin’ at Hogwarts” was written even earlier (October 2003) and a demo of it was included on some diskettes that we mailed out to a few people.  But mostly, this was all written right around the time of recording.  Anyway, there are 14 songs on this and the run-time is under 14 mintues.  It’s fast! The cover art was features our mascot, Wandicorn, and was drawn by our friend Frak.

Our In the Cupboard EP was released in Summer 2007 as part of the Wizard Rock EP of the Month Club.  We recorded it May 14-16 2008 in our parent’s basement using a Tascam Portastudio 424. We played all the instrument on this, including drums! It was essentially recorded live, with the exception of the guitar solo on Ice Cream Man and the drums at the end of Priori Incantatem, which Paul had to overdub because Joe was asleep. Mostly these songs are about weird inconsistencies in the HP books and silly nitpicking. It’s fun though, and it definitely is us at our most punk.

Hardcore! If you like us because we’re funny, this may not be the best record for you to get. We get really conceptual on it. A lot of crummy stuff happens to Harry and if he owned a guitar and a Marshall half-stack, these might be some of the songs he would write. It’s intense and really only funny in that highly conceptual sense. It features 3 songs that are exclusive to this record. We recorded these in January 2006 with Dan Brennan at Soundtrack Boston. Ernie played drums and bass. Our friend Dan McCarthy designed and silkscreened the covers. He also hand-painted the blood on the dagger! Limited edition of 1000 copies on vinyl.

Harry Potter and Hockey together at last! We’ve been friends with the Zambonis for quite some time, and it made perfect sense (at least to us) to combine forces for an extremely conceptual split 7″. We recorded these in January 2006 with Dan Brennan at Soundtrack Boston. Ernie played drums and bass. James Kochalka did the artwork on these gorgeous covers. Limited edition of 600 copies on vinyl.

Paul put this compilation together for the Harry Potter Alliance as a way to raise awareness about media consolidation in the United States. All of the bands contributed exclusive tracks that were written specifically for this compilation and focus on the issue of media in the Harry Potter books. I know it sounds boring, but this is a blast to listen to! There’s some pretty fierce punk rock on here, including our song, Don’t Believe It. This track was recorded in our parent’s basement in November 2007 with Jacob Nathan on drums and is a bit of an homage to our polit-punk heroes, Fugazi. This compilation is still available for free download, so check it out!

Some dude just emailed us out-of-the-blue one day and asked if we wanted to put out singles and stuff on his label in the UK. We told him that didn’t quite suit us, but when he asked if he could put one of our songs on a cassette-only compilation, I couldn’t resist. We don’t even have a copy of one of these, but they look really cool! This version of Wizard Chess is the same as the one from our first album

Every penny of profit on this album will be donated to Book Aid International, to aid in their effort to install libraries in the places in the world that need them most, as well as the the Harry Potter Alliance as it helps bring the messages of the books into the real world.

The third release in the Leaky Cauldrons wildly successful holiday series. The first two editions have raised more than $40,000 for awesome charities like Book Aid International and the Harry Potter Alliance. And the fundraising continues with another excellent holiday-themed wizard disc.

Fun fact about our song this year. The house elf chorus line of “We hate getting clothes for christmas” was originally in a song we wrote for the Magical Christmas of Magic compilation that was sung entirely by house elves. We left it off the CD because we thought it was a little too long and annoying, but we did later work it into the 2005 Yule Ball cassette. This song was recorded in September 2008 and Brad Mehlenbacher played drums on it.

A massive 2-disc collection of some of the best live tracks culled from LeakyCon 2009. All performances were multi-track recorded and later mixed and mastered by our pal Dan Brennan. Proceeds from this compilation benefit the Harry Potter Alliance.

This compilation has 3 songs from our performance on May 22, 2009. Brad Mehlenbacher played drums with us and Brian Ross played guitar on “Dumbledore” and “the Weapon”. This performance of “Dumbledore” was really special. Look it up on YouTube sometime. We consider this the definitive version of our song “Bacon”, as we actually served about 15 lbs of bacon during the performance of the song. There you go.

If you don’t know who the Giant Squidstravaganza is, we highly recommend checking him out. His “Death to Humans” album was one of my favorite things the Wizard Rock EP Club ever produced, so we’re happy to be on his new tribute album. Proceeds from this compilation benefit the Architeuthis Youth Center of Rapid City.

Our song, yet again, indulges our love of wizard food, although in this case, it’s actually muggle food, which makes a lot of sense given Hermione’s upbringing. It was recorded in Woods Hole, MA in March 2010.

Yes indeed! That time of year has come round again and wizardly holiday tunes are destined to grace desktops and high-fis across the land. I’ll be completely honest here: Jingle Spells 4 is THE BEST Jingle Spells ever. This year only a small handful of bands were invited to submit songs and the rest of the spots on the album were open to contributions from anyone. We got a lot of really cool stuff and we put our faves on this disc! This year, sales of Jingle Spells benefit the Harry Potter Alliance and Friends in Deed.

For those wondering at the title, don’t worry, our song is strictly book-canon. It was recorded in Jan/Feb 2010 in Woonsocket, RI and Norwood, MA. Brad Mehlenbacher played drums.

Other

Mail Songs #1

1. Mail Songs Intro
2. Diagon Alley
3. the Weasel
4. Rocking at Hogwarts
5. Bertie Botts

Released October 2003
Artwork by Paul DeGeorge

This was a really short EP that we recorded so that we would have something special to send to people who sent us fanmail. We compressed these songs to really low-quality bit rates so we could fit them onto those old 3.5 inch floppy discs that held like 1.44MB. We would put an address and a stamp on the floppy discs and then drop em in the mail. I think we mailed out about 20 or 30 of these, although we have no idea how many of them made it to their intended destination. The “artwork” above was included as a file on the floppy disc, but unfortunately we don’t have an image of any of the actual discs to put up since they were all mailed. If anyone has one of these and can scan it in, then please email us!

From the Mail Songs “liner” notes: These songs were recorded October 5, 2003. Diagon Alley was one of the first songs we ever wrote for Harry and the Potters. We had pretty much forgotten about it until today. “The Weasel” is a song in progress. It is progressing slowly as we find it difficult to rhyme things with “Ron.” The recording you hear will someday be the chorus to the real song. We wrote “Rocking at Hogwarts” just for this little thing. “Bertie Botts” is a song we have considered playing live, but we haven’t yet found the time to come up with enough disgusting flavors. Someday maybe we will have the courage to perform it.

Yule Ball Cassette 2005

1. Harry and the Potters – the Forbidden Forest Hockey League (demo)
2. the House Elves – We Hate Getting Clothes for Christmas
3. Draco and the Malfoys – Voldemort is Coming to Town

Released December 18, 2005 at the Yule Ball in Cambridge, MA
Spray-painted by Paul DeGeorge
Limited to about 50 copies

We wanted to do something special for the first Yule Ball we were hosting back in 2005, so we came up with the idea of giving away a cassette tape to people who came to the show. We asked Brian and Brad (of Draco and the Malfoys) to help out and they came over to our parent’s house one night and we put this together. It’s sort of like a weird little radio play where the songs are embedded within the storyline. The House Elves song was recorded in October 2005 with our friend Shaun Inman in Baltimore. It was originally going to be on the Magical Christmas of Magic CD, but we cut it out because we thought it was too annoying.

Yule Ball Cassette 2006

1. the Hungarian Horntails – Lighting Fires for House Elves
2. Draco and the Malfoys – Santa is a Mudblood
3. Harry and the Potters – Xmas Rulez, Voldemort Droolz

Released December 2, 2006 at the Yule Ball Philadelphia and December 10, 2006 at the Yule Ball in Cambridge, MA
Spray-painted by Paul DeGeorge
Limited to about 100 copies

For our second annual Yule Ball, we decided to continue the tradition and put together another cassette tape. Since the Hungarian Horntails were playing the shows with us, we asked them to contribute and they sent as song our way, as did Draco and the Malfoys. The version of Xmas Rulez, Voldemort Droolz is the same performance as the version that appears on Jingle Spells, except we did a remix and it sounds way better on Jingle Spells.
